The original interest in this amazing vacation had sprung from looking forward to retirement and knowing that we both wanted to travel.  We had $2,800 in travel vouchers we needed to use before they expired.  It was time to knock an item off of our bucket list.  Then, we saw this video and we knew where we wanted to go.

Gorilla Family Visits with Tourist at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp

(Mwirima, is the silverback gorilla in the video is from December, 2011.  He passed away on March 3, 2014, so there was no chance we would be able to see him.)

We would go see the endangered mountain gorillas.  There are 880 wild and none in captivity.   And, why not we stay in the same camp where that video was taken!  Oh, and while we’re it, we decided we couldn’t go to Africa without going on safari, so that would be part of the trip, too. ~ Mary & Mark

We love adventure and creating new memories. We travel, not to escape life, but for life not to escape us. We are loving this journey called, "life." We're living our lives fully, with gratitude in our hearts. There are kind people all over this world and we have discovered that we are more similar than we are different. The smile is the same in all languages. I love the following quote by Mark Twain: "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So, throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
